Q: How long does it take for KiwiGreenPak biodegradable products to decompose?
A: That depends on whether it's a fibre based product or a corn starch based product. For Fibre based products, they can decompose in as little 45 days. For PLA (polylactide - from corn starch) products, can take as little as 30 - 40 days.

Q: What is a biodegradable product?
A: Biodegradable products are generally organic materials such as plant and animal matter and other substances originating from living organisms.

Q: Can I use PLA cups for hot drinks
A KiwiGreenPak PLA clear cups are for cold drinks only. KiwiGreenPak provide fibre based cups for hot drinks

Q: What raw material is used in KiwiGreenPak fibre based products?
A: Mostly bamboo together with some Bagasse (sugarcane bi-product) and reeds. Up to 80% bamboo is what gives KiwiGreenPak its rigity and strength and cleaner, white finish

Q: What about the Pandas, don't they live on bamboo?
A: Yes they do. The are estimated to be between 700 and 1000 Pandas in the wild, situated predominently in the province of Sichuan in China. Pandas require about 5 square kilometers in which to live, which equates to approx 1% of the province of Sichuan. Sichuan makes up only around 5% of China's land area of approx 9.5 million sq kilometres.

Q: Are biodegradable products more expensive than plastic or petrochemical based products?
A: By far the majority of KiwiGreenPak products are priced comparably, and in many cases cheaper, to similar products in non enviromentally friendly materials such as foam (EPS) , polypropylene (PP), High Impact polystyrene (HIPS), poly vinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene terephlylate (PET)

Q: Can I just throw my used KiwiGreenPak packaging back into nature?
A: NO !! Under no circumstances should anyone discard any litter or man made product in to nature. KiwiGreenPak product can however be buried in the ground where they will naturally decompose. This makes KiwiGreenPak products ideal for the outdoors.

Q: What is Polylactide (PLA)?
A: Polylactic acid or Polylactide (PLA) is a biodegradable, thermoplastic, aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources. Corn starch or sugarcanes are the common feedstock.
